severe bubbles

Fabio Addari exposition | romAntica | October 20-26, 2006 | Pentart gallery, Rome

This one is the first shot I choose from my first exposition.
The exposition name was "romAntica".
In Italian language it stands for either "romantic" and "ancient Rome".

Concept behind my shots aims to challenge the new and the old with a kind of recorsive point of view made of time itself.
So, I took something with thousands of years and somethink with a very short life and I put them one against the other.

First of all I moved to a classical location in Rome, the Roman Forum (il Foro Romano), and then I made something new and with a short life: soap bubbles.
The ancient part of this scene is represented by the Arc of Settimio Severo (Arco di Settimio Severo).
I completed the time-itself concept removing the colors in the ancient part while I keep them in the modern one.
Note this is not a photomanipulation because it is just a selective desaturation: the shot is as you see.

It's so interesting to see how we can appreciate soap bubbles as like as we can appreciate ancient architectures, and how we can be enthusiasts for a thing that stands for less then a second as well as for a thing that stands since thousands of years ago.
